The legendary Walter Massa is considered the guru of Timorasso, almost single handedly reviving the grape.
Walter runs his family vineyard (est 1879) and spearheaded the revival of the Timorasso grape.
Now managing 33H of vines over 8 distinct vineyards. 3 of these Ha were planted in 2023 1.5 Timorasso, 1 Barbera & 0.5 Moscato)
Walter produces the following Timorasso:

  • 3 single vineyard (“cru”) Timorasso
    • Costa del Vento (original vineyard planted in 1985 & extended in 2021)
    • Sterpi (planted in 1996)
    • Montecitorio  (planted in 2006)
  • Derthona Timorasso (a blend of the 3 vineyards)
  • Picolo Derthona (first picking of young grapes that won’t make it into Derthona Timorasso)

After years of testing, he has now decided to switch entirely to screwcaps since 2021 and has started embedding them with NFC chips for his wine club
