Donatella Giannotti has been producing wine at Cascina Montagnola since 1997 and is one of the most established Timorasso producers in Colli Tortonesi
Cascina Montagnola‘s manor house, Villa Margherita, is an Art Nouveau building dating back to the early 1900s, renovated by 2001 by Donatella and her late husband.
Their vineyards sit at ~150m altitude and include 1Ha historic Barbera (from the 1950s) before planting further vines:
1990 : Cortesa, Croatina, Chardonnay
2003 : planted the first Timorasso
2008 : planted Merlot + Sauvignon Blanc
2018 : planted new Timorasso vines
Cascina Montagnola’s first Timorasso vintage was in 2006, and they produce 3 Timorasso:
- Derthona : entry level from the younger 2018 vines
- Morasso : flagship Timorasso from 2003 vines
- Morassino : a sweet Timorasso made in (available from www.timorasso.de)
Montagnola is one of the few winemakers to offer a vertical tasting. 10 vintages from the first 2006 harvest.
